45 minDiversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Workplace
Our teams and the people we support come from many cultures, backgrounds, identities and life experiences. This course explains what diversity, equity and inclusion mean and why they matter for our workplace and for the quality of support we provide. You will explore the difference between equality and equity, learn how unconscious bias and microaggressions can affect decisions and relationships, and practise inclusive language and behaviour. The course introduces cultural safety, including for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, summarises Australian anti-discrimination laws, and explains how to request adjustments and speak up when something is not right. Two case studies show these ideas in everyday support and team life. Duration: 45 minutes.
45 minReceiving Feedback With a Growth Mindset
Feedback is one of the fastest ways to grow in your role, but hearing it is not always easy. This course explains the difference between a fixed mindset and a growth mindset, and how the way you think about your abilities shapes how you respond to feedback. You will learn why feedback can feel uncomfortable, practical steps for listening, asking questions and responding calmly, and how to turn feedback into a simple action plan. We also look at feedback from participants and families, and how asking for feedback yourself helps build trust and better supports. It also covers supervision and reflective practice, with two case studies. Duration: 45 minutes.
55 minStaff Mental Health and Wellbeing
Support work is meaningful, and it can also be demanding. This course helps you look after your own mental health so you can keep doing work you care about. You will learn how stress shows up in your body and behaviour, how vicarious trauma and burnout develop, and what reduces the risk. We cover professional boundaries, practical self care and peer support, and the psychosocial hazards that employers must manage under work health and safety laws. Finally, we explain how to use our Employee Assistance Program, how to raise a concern, and where to get urgent help at any hour. Duration: 55 minutes.
45 minWorkplace Bullying and Harassment
Everyone deserves to work somewhere they feel safe and respected. This course explains what workplace bullying is and is not, what sexual harassment looks like, and what other forms of harassment and discrimination are unlawful. You will learn about the positive duty under the Sex Discrimination Act, which requires employers to take proactive steps to prevent sexual harassment and related conduct, and about your own responsibilities as a colleague and bystander. The course also sets out how to raise a concern with us, what support is available and which external bodies can help. It applies to conduct from colleagues, managers, participants, families and anyone else you meet through work. Two case studies show how to respond to bullying by a colleague and harassment from a participant. Duration: 45 minutes.
